Communication of Design Solutions
The design process involves multiple iterations and redesigns of your final solution. You will likely test your solution, find new problems, make changes, and test new solutions before settling on a final design. Each bar submitted by teams is put through a series of tests appropriate to the application, like prying, punching, twisting, and striking. Along with submitting the Halligan bar, teams were required to submit a project video and a technical report documenting the design and manufacturing process by the March 29th deadline. It was all part of the learning process as the team prepared to submit an entry into a national competition.
Build a Prototype
In a design lab environment, student groups design, create and test prototype devices that help people using crutches carry things, such as books and school supplies. Practical skills will be developed through hands-on exercises covering the entire design process, from conceptualization and analysis to prototyping and evaluation. Additionally, participants will learn to leverage modern engineering tools and software to enhance both the creative and technical aspects of their projects. Students learn about the mathematical characteristics and reflective property of ellipses by building their own elliptical-shaped pool tables.
